iPad3 coming- When is the best time to sell off my old iPad?

iPad3 coming- When is the best time to sell off my old iPad?

The apple ipad 3 launch is simply nearby, meaning if you are considering buying and selling-up, this is the time to market your old iPad.

It’s that season again when Apple releases a brand new iPad, what exactly in the event you use your old one? And really should you receive the Wi-Fi only version a treadmill with 3rd generation/4G access?

Within this edition of Request Maggie, I help a readers who’s jonesing for that approaching apple ipad 3 evaluate which related to his apple ipad 2. I find some good advice in the Boss from the gadget trade-in site Gazelle. I additionally help another readers decide whether he should purchase Wi-Fi-only version from the iPad or maybe he should splurge on the one which has generated-in wireless broadband connectivity.

iPad trade-inches

Question:I’ve got a Wi-Fi only version from the apple ipad 2 16GB. I really like getting the most recent and finest gadget, but I am on a tight budget so I must be considered a little careful. Naturally I would like the apple ipad 3, but I am unsure it’s well worth the upgrade. I listen to it goes on purchase at the begining of March. So my real question is must i sell my apple ipad 2 and obtain the apple ipad 3? Or must i stick to the apple ipad 2? And when I choose to sell, must i market it now after i can most likely obtain a better cost or hold back until the apple ipad 3 is introduced to ascertain if it is not the same as the apple ipad 2? You will find a lot of choices to create!

Thanks,
Undecided in Boston

Dear Undecided in Boston,
This can be a tough question, since it really is dependent how tight your financial allowance is. Clearly, minimal costly factor to do is and also hardwearing . current apple ipad 2 and then apply it as lengthy as possible.

But when you are a classic gadget lover who desires the most recent and finest products, then it may be worthwhile that you should remain on the surface of the upgrades. The lucky factor for you personally is the fact that Apple items, specially the iPad, hold their value a lot better than other devices.

So which means that whenever you upgrade, you will have a far better possibility of benefiting from money-back whenever you re-sell your products. And when your products is just one generation behind, you will get more income for this.

(Credit: Apple)

I lately met with Israel Ganot, Boss and co-founding father of the gadget trade-in company Gazelle. And that he explained that the system is best before a brand new generation from the method is launched. Consequently, Ganot suggests securing inside a cost for the apple ipad 2 now prior to the apple ipad 3 is introduced at the begining of March.

Ganot stated that lots of clients happen to be carrying this out. Since Feb 9 when gossips from the apple ipad 3 arriving early March were first reported, Gazelle has seen a 400 percent rise in trade-inches for previous decades of iPads. The organization also saw a 50 % rise in Android tablet trade-inches along with a 25 % rise in Amazon . com Amazon Kindle Fire tablet trade-inches.

“With the potential of an apple ipad 2 cost cut or perhaps an iPad 8-inch model, our iPad costs are at their greatest point,” Ganot explained. “They ought to stay steady heading in to the launch but will begin to volitile manner right after the announcement.”

Inside your situation, you can get $240 for the 16GB Wi-Fi only apple ipad 2 now. This really is nearly half the price of that which you compensated whenever you bought the apple ipad 2 new. And when the apple ipad 3 can also be $500 if this arrives, then you’re almost midway to that particular cost by selling your apple ipad 2. That’s not necessarily a bad deal.

But that $240 cost may go lower following the apple ipad 3 is launched, as Ganot highlights. For instance, the initial iPad has become selling for $140 on Gazelle.

The primary reason that it’ll rapidly lose value is the fact that previously Apple has offered its elderly apple iphone or iPad in a reduced cost to clients once new is launched. So the chances are someone could customize the apple ipad 2 from Apple for $400 rather than $500. Which would devalue your used apple ipad 2.

Obviously, you will find sites apart from Gazelle, where one can trade inside your old products. Plus some may provide you with a level greater cost. But be cautious. You will find some sites that could give you the bait and switch, estimating you one cost to lure you in after which proclaiming to offer you a significantly reduced cost when you send them your products.

If you want a premium price for the gadget, you might like to consider selling it on eBay or Craig’s list. But this really is frequently more work and much more hassle than lots of people wish to endure.

Gazelle provides a no hassle and a simple method to sell your devices and obtain compensated fast. Since Gazelle really wants to make certain you return to the organization to market the next gadget, it attempts to make customers feel at ease and secure using its service. Ganot stated that Gazelle may even provide you with a lot more than the cited cost if if finds that the system is more vital. For instance, let us say you have a cost quote for any 16GB iPad, however, you submitted a 32GB iPad. Gazelle provides you with the cost for that 32GB model.

Also, the positive thing about Gazelle is it enables you to definitely lock-inside your cost let’s focus on thirty days. Therefore if the apple ipad 3 should be introduced March 7 and continue purchase the next week, Gazelle’s 30-day cost lock allows you lots of time to obtain the apple ipad 3 before you need to send your old apple ipad 2 for that trade-in.

Now to another question. In the event you upgrade? That’s difficult to say at this time because the product has not been introduced, and so i can’t say for several that it’ll be considered a huge improvement within the previous product. However, many reviews claim that the apple ipad 3, or what many people call the iPad 2S, will appear much like the older apple ipad 2. It’s likely to function as the same size and width.

Nevertheless the specs around the new iPad are required to become enhanced. For instance, the screen continues to be referred to as “truly amazing”, based on a leak-happy Apple worker inside a recent New You are able to Occasions article. This would mean that it’s as well as-spoken about retina display that lots of have a much an answer of two,048×1,536 pixels. This is four occasions the amount of pixels because the iPad 2′s current 1,024×768-pixel display.

The unit can also be envisioned having a quicker processor, although we’ve not heard any specifics about this yet. And it is envisioned having a larger battery with longer existence.

I believe that for those who have some cash to invest and you need to make certain you will find the latest product, you need to trade within the apple ipad 2 and obtain the apple ipad 3. But as I have noted make certain to secure your cost now prior to the apple ipad 3 is introduced.

Possessing the most recent generation product guarantees that any new software and additional features or applications which are introduced works in your device. For those who have a tool that’s a few decades old, you might lose out on a few of the more recent features.

Obviously, these tips is not for everybody. If you do not require the latest and finest gadget or accessibility most popular new applications featuring or you won’t want to keep investing money every year to upgrade, then just keep the apple ipad 2. It will not be worth just as much the coming year because it is today, but you will probably still have the ability to acquire some money for this should you ever recycle for cash it and upgrade to some more recent model.

I really hope these tips was useful. Best of luck!

3 Most Expensive iPad Apps In The World Revealed

BarMax CA and BarMax NY – $999.99
      (for iPhone and iPad)
An app that helps law students study for the bar exam.

Although most of us only buy the apps we really need and for the most part the prices are really good, recently “The Most Expensive Journal”

came out with a list of the 10 most expensive iPad apps which just shows the potentia for high quality apps to be prices similar to their expensive desktop equivalents.

There’s a lot you could buy for $1,000. Three iPad app developers expect you to drop it all on them. The cheapest retails for $299.99 and the top three retail for $999.99 each.

      The Alchemist SMS – $999.99

This app “provides users in the steelmaking and scrap metal recycling industry with the tools necessary to achieve reductions in raw material costs.”

Intuition Control Solo WolfVision – $999.99

Patent-pending technology that revolutionizes video conferencing

The first and only iPad application that lets you easily control your WolfVision visualizers! NOW offered to educational institutions at 50 percent off its regular price through the App Store Volume Purchase

Although these apps don’t appeal to me it looks like specialized software or apps that give niche specific users exactly what they want in a easy transferable and portable manner will be snatched up by those niche specific users. So, if you have an iPad app idea and though that only a small percentage of people will use it, go ahead and speak to a developer, you might just be surprised at the outcome.

Glasses Free 3D on iPad using iPad2 camera Head Tracking

Since I watched the movie Tron as a kid I loved the idea of 3D and Virtual worlds and Augmented reality.

Unfortunately as time went by and we were disappointed by not all having our own VR headsets, flying cars and didn’t have the augmented reality highway billboards that we were promised in movies such as Back to the Future, the dream of 3D and augmented reality slowly dwindled into something of myth and even though 3D TV tries to bring 3D back, their world has to be seen through “rose tinted glasses”

Luckily over the last few years a lot of researchers around the world has been experimenting with Augmented reality and 3D. I know Middlesex University Interactive Design Centre has done interesting work related to Augmented Reality and Visual Analytics regarding Air Traffic Controllers, who’s work might be complimentary to the work done by Laboratory of Informatics of Grenoble shown below

MacStories points to an interesting use of the iPad’s front facing camera to provide a convincing 3D effect on the iPad. Jeremie Francone and Laurence Nigay from the Laboratory of Informatics of Grenoble put together this demo video showing how user tracking can be used:

We track the head of the user with the front facing camera in order to create a glasses-free monocular 3D display. Such spatially-aware mobile display enables to improve the possibilities of interaction. It does not use the accelerometers and relies only on the front camera.

Francone and Nigay were inspired by the work of Johnny Lee who built a similar system using a Wii system. The app does not yet appear to be available for download. We had previously reported that Apple was also exploring this type of 3d “hyper reality” displays for the Mac desktop based on a patent application published in 2009.

The user could then move their head left and right to look around a 3D object as shown in the example image above. Apple also suggests that it could also be applied to 2D objects like windows to provide some added depth to traditionally flat objects.

As with all patent applications, we don’t know if Apple will ever deliver these technologies to market, but 3D has become a trendy topic once again, so there’s been a lot of renewed interest in this field.

With this type of research being done and the speed of uptake of devices such as the iPad, it will only be a matter of time that we will have a much more interesting reality to explore.

iPad 2 Online Orders Shipping Times Improve to 2-3 Weeks

Apple has now really revved up the Marketing since the weekend to appeal to a larger base of customers than just the initial fan base (which is growing at an alarming rate)

Will it still be called a cult if everyone is in it eventually :-)

Shipping estimates for new online orders of all iPad 2 models have improved to 2-3 weeks today, down from earlier 3-4 weeks. The new shipping estimates appear to apply in all countries where the iPad 2 is currently shipping.

This is good news for anyone who couldn’t get their hands on the iPad 2 at the launch. I’m visiting the USA in a few weeks and hope that walking in and buying one will be an option then…

iPad 2 pricing is cheaper than iPad 1

It is not often that the next and newest model of a technological gadget turns out to be cheaper than it’s predecessor.

When it comes to the iPad 2 however, it seems the resell price of your older iPad1 has fallen a bit, because as the Unofficial Apple WebBlog points out, the iPad2 is cheaper than the iPad1 was:

As for pricing, here are some numbers. MacStories points out that the Italian pricing is €479,00 for the WiFi 16 GB model, €579,00 for the WiFi 32 GB model and €679,00 for WiFi 64 GB. The WiFi + 3G models will be available for €599,00, €699,00 and €799,00.

Meanwhile, in The UK, customers will pay £399.00 for the 16 GB model, £479.00 for the 32 GB model, £559.00 for the 64 GB model. Wi-Fi + 3G models will be available for £499.00, £579.00 and £659.00. That’s cheaper than the first iPad and an even better value considering VAT in the UK went up from 17.5% to 20%.

Finally, our friends in Australia will pay $579, $689 and $799 for the 16 GB, 32 GB and and 64 GB Wi-Fi models, respectively, and $729, $839 and $949 for the Wi-Fi + 3G models.

As with most Apple technology it still has a really good 2nd hand price, but you will no doubt have to pay in after selling off your iPad1 to a “slow adopter”

UK launch time of Apple iPad 2 confirmed and updated UK iPad 2 pricing

According to Apple’s latest press release which confirmed the exact launch time of the iPad 2 in the UK to be 5pm on 25th March 2011, as well as the the pricing for the the range of iPad2′s the pricing is as below:.

          • iPad2 16GB wi-fi model is £399 (compared to iPad1 16gb wifi only version which was £429)
          • iPad2 32Gb Wifi Only is £479
          • iPad2 64Gb Wifi version is £559

The 3G versions cost £100 more down the line for the privilege, so pricing will start at £499.

The equivalent iPad 2, turns out to be cheaper than the Motorola Xoom (as we show, when you consider the basic wi-fi Xoom (with 32GB of memory) is £499, as opposed to Apple’s £479.

Quoting Robert Peckham,(The former Executive Director of the Mac Technology Association reseller group): “iPad 2 will be available at Apple retail stores and select Apple authorised resellers at 5pm local time.”

CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs, noted: “We’re experiencing amazing demand for iPad 2 in the US, and customers around the world have told us they can’t wait to get their hands on it. We appreciate everyone’s patience and we are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone.”

As one of our previous post stated, there really isn’t any alternative to the iPad2 which makes sense.
So If you’re not one who enjoys queuing, it might be some time before you can get your hands one one of them.

iPad alternative doesn’t exist – Competition Is Toast

This interesting chart from Business insider shows the shocking gap between iPad’s and the Rivals. I call it Rivals instead of competition, since there clearly aren’t any real competition to the iPad at this moment.

Although 2011 might be the year of the copycats, so far I’ve not seen anything that competes on any level.

One year ago when the iPad launched some colleagues started buying cheap knockoffs and famously one we nicknamed “i-Paid” since it only arrived 3 months after purchasing the cheap 2 hour max battery life device running Android.

If you have shares in Apple, this chart might delight you!

          iPad Competition Is Toast

ChangeWave Research just put out a new report on consumer interest in tablets, and surprise, surprise, the iPad is the number one by a mile.

82% of the 3,091 consumers ChangeWave polled say they want an iPad. The second most interesting competitor? OTHER. Not the Xoom, not the Galaxy Tab, not the Playbook, but something else. Yikes!

At the time ChangeWave did this survey, the Xoom wasn’t out, but it had been announced. Maybe some marketing from Motorola will help?

Napster for iPhone and iPad is now available

I don’t know about you, but it is about time that this happened.

After neglecting the “apps” scene for a while, Napster has finally launched an official app for Apple’s iOS operating system, giving users a well-known alternative to the device’s concentrated connection to iTunes.

Napster, completely divorced from its illegal peer-to-peer sharing roots, lets users stream unlimited music for a $10 monthly fee. The company tried for a while to sell its own dedicated MP3 players linked to user accounts, but that venture never really worked out.

Instead of developing dedicated mobile apps, Napster had until now tried a different strategy. It set up a catch-all mobile website for every smartphone user to access. But that site didn’t give access to streaming music, only offering MP3 downloads that would be delivered directly to the phone’s hard drive. Subscribers to Napster get a limited number of downloads every month.

Today, Napster has officially launched the iPhone app, which not only gives users access to those downloads, but to the more than 8 million streaming songs available as well. It is a free download but of course requires the $10 monthly fee to get any use out of.

Napster also last month released an app for Internet-connected Samsung TVs, allowing users to stream their music directly to the silver screen. There’s no word yet on an Android app or apps for other platforms, but clearly Napster is expanding in that way so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see more Napster apps popping up soon.

I don’t know about you, but this is what I like to see, applications that produce some sort of competition on a mobile platform. Of course, if you own an iPhone or an iPad and have a napster subscription, then you will definitely want to have a look at this.

          It’s now legal to jailbreak

Getting out of jail is free!

          Get out of jail free

Fantastic news today from the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF).  After a lot of hard work and mountains of paperwork, jailbreaking your iPhone is now explicitly a permitted fair use under the DMCA!

The first of EFF’s three successful requests clarifies the legality of cell phone “jailbreaking” — software modifications that liberate iPhones and other handsets to run applications from sources other than those approved by the phone maker. More than a million iPhone owners are said to have “jailbroken” their handsets in order to change wireless providers or use applications obtained from sources other than Apple’s own iTunes “App Store,” and many more have expressed a desire to do so. But the threat of DMCA liability had previously endangered these customers and alternate applications stores.

In its reasoning in favor of EFF’s jailbreaking exemption, the Copyright Office rejected Apple’s claim that copyright law prevents people from installing unapproved programs on iPhones: “When one jailbreaks a smartphone in order to make the operating system on that phone interoperable with an independently created application that has not been approved by the maker of the smartphone or the maker of its operating system, the modifications that are made purely for the purpose of such interoperability are fair uses.”

The EFF also successfully renewed the existing DMCA exception for carrier unlocking.  More on the ruling by the Library of Congress is here and here (and many other places, since this is huge news!). The full ruling is here, and EFF’s history with this case is here (EFF’s servers are understandably getting hammered today!).

This doesn’t mean that Apple will stop their technical attempts to thwart jailbreaking, it just means that it’s now unambiguously legal under the DMCA for you the end user to both jailbreak and unlock.

          Great job, EFF!

For those of you that don’t know what jailbreaking is, you can have a look at what it is by clicking here. For those of you who have jailbroken in the past, don’t upgrade to the latest version of the iOS or you will lose your jailbreak until the newest version of the jailbreaking tools have been released by people like the iPhone dev team or geohot (who’s blog is officially private at the time of writing this post).
